The report describes the musical standards and teaching in glowing terms, with ‘exceptional levels of knowledge, skill and sophistication in musical performance’. Pupils, the report says, ‘display an unappeasable appetite to improve’ and ‘achieve outstandingly as individuals, members of chamber groups and larger ensembles’, and it highlights the progress which pupils make over time as ‘remarkable’.
On the academic front, the inspectors decided that ‘Teaching is excellent in academic lessons where pupils are given opportunities to extend their knowledge and understanding beyond the planned curriculum.’ ‘Lessons are characterized by strong relationships that allow pupils without hesitation to ask for help.’
The inspectors described the the pupils’ behaviour as ‘impeccable’, saying that they were ‘warmly courteous, polite and well-mannered’. ‘Relationships between staff and pupils, and between pupils themselves, are excellent. Pupils feel safe and are well cared for.’
Headmaster David Thomas commented: “I am delighted that the inspectors recognised the many strengths of the school, and its unique character. It is a great tribute to everyone involved to receive such a positive report. However, we are not complacent, and will be looking carefully at the small number of recommendations the inspectors have made, to see if we can improve the school even further.”
