Purcell Pianists Win International Competitions

It has been wonderful to return to School after the Easter break to news that not one but two Purcell pianists have triumphed in international music competitions.

In the first instance, our congratulations to Year 9 pianist Luca who, on 3rd April, took part in the Alicante International Piano Competition in Spain and won The Absolute First prize.

Luca played Tchaikovsky’s ‘March’ from the Nutcracker suite (Pletnev arrangement), a piece from Prokofiev’s six pieces from the Cinderella suite ‘Quarrel’, and Ravel’s Jeux d’eau.

As part of the Absolute Prize prize, which was awarded unanimously by the judging panel, Luca has also been invited to participate in the Young Promises concert in Alfàs del Pi.

Luca studies at Purcell under Florian Mitrea.
