Being an NYO Composer is a fantastic opportunity; the composers play a full role in all Rehearsal Residencies, writing new music and hearing their ideas brought instantly to life by chamber groups formed of NYO members. At the end of each residency their pieces are performed at an informal, free concert in a major concert hall. Composers get to harness the expertise of the NYO’s inspirational tutors, Anna Meredith and Larry Goves – and work with the guest composers whose music NYO is performing during the year. During a rehearsal residency, composers will typically be required to work to a particular, often challenging brief: restricting themselves to an unusual ensemble combination, for instance, or writing in response to a specific piece within the programme.
