Purcell Folk Club
The inaugural meeting of Purcell’s Folk Club took place on Monday 29th January. All who attended had a wonderful time with one student learning a new instrument in record time (20 minutes!) and another introducing the group to a magnificent song from the Irish Gaelic tradition, Siuil a Ruin. There are even rumours of a Bodhran being available for future meetings!

Morta Grigaliunaite Concert Dates
It is with pleasure that we share news of the international concert dates of one of our Piano Faculty, Morta Grigaliunaite. An active soloist and chamber musician, as well as a member of teaching staff at Purcell, Morta has a number of international concert dates coming up in the next few weeks.
On Monday 5th February, she will perform in the Messiaen Quartet playing ‘For The End Of Time’ in Lisbon, Grande Auditório de Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian. This concert will be followed on Monday 12th February with a solo recital in Lisbon, Museu do Oriente, which will be broadcast live on the Portuguese classical music radio station, Antena 2. Lastly, Morta will play Haydn’s Concerto for Violin, Keyboard and Strings with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, Ruta Lipinaityte (violin) and Pietro Borgonovo (conductor) in Vilnius, National Philharmonic Hall.

Online Flute Accelerate Class
On Sunday 7th April, Purcell’s expert Woodwind Department will be running two Online Flute Accelerate Classes for young flautists of a minimum level of Grade 5 ABRSM or equivalent.
There are 15 performer slots available per session. The classes are 90 minutes each, with unlimited auditors.
This is a fantastic chance for young flautists to explore the Audition/Exam process from preparation to performance, and is an online event which is offered free of charge. The ‘flutes-out’ sessions will concentrate on audition/exam warm ups, building confidence and playing with personality. The class also provides a unique opportunity to play to Purcell’s Flute teachers Clare Jefferis and Mark Taylor and receive mock audition feedback.
To register for the 10.00am or 3.00pm GMT session, please complete the form here. Both sessions will contain the same content and so we request only one registration per flautist and timeslot.
Deadline for registrations: Monday 25th March 2024
