Young Drummer of the Year Competition 2023

We were thrilled to hear earlier this week that, for the second year running, Year 9 drummer Jack has made it into the top 10 of the Young Drummer of the Year Competition 2023.

Jack will be performing in the live final on Sunday 19th February at the Lighthouse Theatre in Dorset. Tickets for the event are on sale now and available from the venue’s box office here.

We wish Jack the very best of luck! All at Purcell are rooting for you.

Double Reed ‘Accelerate’ Day

On Sunday 26th March, Purcell’s Woodwind Department will open its doors to young double reed players (of Grade 3 standard and above in Year 5-11) for an afternoon of workshops dedicated to these stunning instruments.

The ‘Accelerate’ Day is an opportunity for double reed players to explore aspects of solo performance, technique, chamber music and reed making with Purcell’s music tutors. The event will allow players to hone and develop the aspects of playing which they really enjoy while also tackling the areas where an extra boost or additional help might be useful. There will be the chance to play to Purcell’s oboe and bassoon tutors as well as take part in informal discussions and chamber music sessions.

Whether you’ve just been playing for a short time, or you are at an advanced stage with your playing, come and join us for a fun day of music making!
