Welcome to the latest edition of Purcell’s Weekly Highlights!
The Global Genius Music Competition
We were delighted to hear earlier this week that Year 10 pianist Phoebe had become a double Gold Prize Winner in The Global Genius Music Competition.
Phoebe triumphed in the competition’s Baroque and Age 13-14 categories, winning the Gold Prize in both. She was also awarded a Special Prize for ‘Excellent Musicality’ by the International Jury, and will be recognised in the next issue of World of New Classical Musicians online magazine to be published in February 2022.
Our congratulations to Phoebe. What a fantastic achievement!
64th Annual Grammy Awards
Multi-instrumentalist, composer, recording artist (Weekly Highlights regular!) and alumnus Jacob Collier has received two nominations for the 64th Annual Grammy Awards. The nominations are for Best R&B Song for co-writing SZA’s Good Days, and Best Arrangement, Instrument and Vocals for The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire).
Jacob already holds a total of five Grammy awards from seven nominations for his first four albums, and made history earlier this year by becoming the first British artist to win a Grammy with each of his first four albums – an achievement which alluded even the most prolific of UK Grammy winners, including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Elton John, David Bowie, Coldplay, Adele and Amy Winehouse.
We are thrilled for Jacob, and have everything crossed that he is able to add to his award collection on 31st January 2022.
Design a Christmas Card Competition
Calling all entries for the Purcell Christmas Card Competition!
The competition is open to all Purcell students. Entries must be fabulously festive in theme but the design can be anything from pieces of artwork and illustrations, to typographical and photographic approaches. The more creative and fun, the better!
The winning design will become The Purcell School’s official 2021 Christmas card, and will feature the winner’s name on the back. The winner will also receive copies of the card to send to their friends and family.
The competition is open until Monday 29th November, and the winner will be announced on Wednesday 1st December.
Entries can be handed in at Reception or emailed to publicity@purcell-school.org.
