Senior School Concerto Competition

The Grand Final of the Senior School Concerto Competition took place on Sunday afternoon and it did not disappoint. Each finalist rose to the occasion splendidly with ambitious pieces, performed beautifully, with exemplary precision – all of which made the job of guest adjudicator Chi-chi Nwanoku OBE that much harder.

At the end of a sensational afternoon of music, there were . . . two winners . . . and it is a huge pleasure to announce that joint First Place was awarded to Lily (clarinet, Year 12) and Yinong (violin, Year 12). Heartfelt and hugely deserved congratulations to Lily and Yinong, as well as two the other Grand Finalists, Jayden (cello, Year 13) and Magdalene (piano, Year 12).

Surprise Farewell Party

On Wednesday evening, the staff and students of Avison House held a surprise farewell party for Purcell’s Head of Boarding Jane Malan.

Jane leaves Purcell at the end of this academic year in order to return to her farm in South Africa. A stunning crystal bowl keepsake (gifted by the Avison House staff, students and parents) and a forthcoming international shipping date are the reasons behind the earlier than planned leaving party. By all accounts Jane was completely stupefied – something which anyone who knows her will tell you is tremendously difficult to achieve – and delighted with the very generous gesture.
