Departmental Winners of the Senior Concerto Competition

It has been a truly extraordinary week of music here at Purcell with the Senior Concerto Competition departmental heats having taken place.

Principal Paul Bambrough commented that ‘Without exception, every single performance has been exceptional in its virtuosity, its musicianship and its maturity’, and we are delighted to be able to announce that the names of the departmental winners going through to the Grand Final are:

Jayden (cello, Year 13)
Yinong (violin, Year 12)
Lily (clarinet, Year 12)
Magdalene (piano, Year 12)

The Grand Final, which takes place on Sunday afternoon and concludes the Senior Concerto Competition, will be adjudicated by Chi-chi Nwanoku OBE. The finalists will each be accompanied by either Purcell accompanists Debbie Shah and Daniel Swain or, in the case of Jayden, Year 13 harpsichordist Jack. Our sincere thanks to them for their support and expertise, and the very best of luck to all our exceptionally talented competitors.

RAM Junior Jazz Course

We were so pleased to hear that jazz trumpeter Ted (Year 11) has been offered a place on the Royal Academy of Music Junior Jazz Course from September. What an achievement! Well done to Ted.

Student Successes at Piano Festivals

Year 7 pianist Gabriella has been busy this term having entered a number of piano festivals. In the recent North London Festival of Music, Speech & Drama and The Watford Festival, Gabriella scored the highest marks in her categories. She also received a 94 in the Orbetello International Piano Competition, which ranked her in First Place alongside other high scoring competitors. Congratulations, Gabriella, on these fantastic accomplishments.

Artwork of the Week

This week’s highlight from the Art Studio comes from Mateo in Year 12. The stunning scan of a bluebell is the beginning of his exploration into flora and fauna. Watch this space for more from Mateo.
