Six finalists have been chosen from the 32 who auditioned for The Purcell School’s Senior Concerto Competition.  The preliminary rounds were held last weekend and the standard was extremely high. 

The adjudicator was Jeffrey Sharkey, Principal of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, who commented “It was such a joy to hear your young musicians perform this weekend…it’s wonderful to see such a high standard of musicianship.  Congratulations to the finalists.”

Two of the six finalists will win the opportunity to perform their concerto with the School Symphony Orchestra in 2015/16.

The finalists are:

Hannah Condliffe Strauss Oboe concerto, TrV 292
Frederico Paixao – Ibert Flute Concerto
Juhee Yang – Barber Violin Concerto, Op. 14
Nina Kiva – Prokofiev Sinfonia Concertante, Op. 125
Kenny Fu – Ravel Piano Concerto
Alim Beisembayev – Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto, Op. 23

The final will take place on Thursday 19th March in the Constance Pilkington Hall at The Purcell School, from 4:00-8:00pm with breaks.  Admission is free.
