Purcell pupils and staff with our visitors from a specialist music school in Baku, Azerbaijan
Last week, we were delighted to host visitors from a specialist music school in Baku, Azerbaijan.  Two pupils and the Director of the school have been shadowing Purcell pupils this week and learning about specialist music teaching in our UNESCO-award-winning school.  We were fortunate to hear a recital given by the two Azerbaijani pupils, featuring the piano and the tar, a traditional stringed-faced lute which is an emblem of Azeri musical culture.  It was fascinating to hear the Azeri language spoken, to hear and learn about the ‘mugham’ tradition in Azeri music and to savour the subtle micro-tonal qualities of the tar.  We wish our guests well as they travel back to Baku and thank them for their concert.
