On Monday evening, The Purcell School Symphony Orchestra played to a full Queen Elizabeth Hall at the Southbank Centre. They gave a fantastic performance under the baton of Colin Metters in a programme which included Berlioz Roman Carnival Overture, Rachmaninov Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini and Sibelius Symphony No.5.  They were joined by BBC Young Musician of the Year 2014 Martin James Bartlett for the Rachmaninov, which is the piece he played to overwhelming acclaim for the final of BBC Young Musician. Martin studied at The Purcell School for five years with Emily Jeffrey, before commencing his undergraduate studies with Vanessa Latarche at the Royal College of Music in 2014.

The programme also included two student compositions, written by William Gough and Felix Altenberg and conducted by sixth-former, Matthew Higham.

Well done to all for a truly memorable concert!
