The Purcell School, the UK’s oldest specialist music school, is delighted to announce the launch of its inaugural Giving Day, a 24-hour celebration of music, community and generosity taking place from 10am on Thursday 11th December to 10am on Friday 12th December 2025. Based in Bushey, Hertfordshire, the School is home to exceptionally talented young musicians from across the country and internationally, and the new Giving Day will bring together students, families, alumni, staff and supporters in aid of the School’s Bursary Fund.
At the heart of the Giving Day will be an ambitious continuous 24-hour concert, performed by students from every department. Showcasing the remarkable breadth of musical talent nurtured at The Purcell School, the programme will feature performances across classical, jazz, popular and contemporary styles. The event will be live streamed from the School, enabling supporters near and far to take part in the celebration and lend their support throughout the full 24 hours.
Funds raised during the Giving Day will directly support The Purcell School’s Bursary Fund, which provides vital financial assistance to gifted young musicians who would otherwise be unable to access the specialist training the School provides. At a time of growing financial pressure for many families, The Purcell School remains committed to ensuring that potential, passion and promise – not financial circumstance – determine access to its world-class music education. The Giving Day will help expand this support, ensuring that more students can benefit from the opportunities and artistic environment that define the School.
Year 12 student, Carla, shared her excitement about the event, saying: “For many of us, music isn’t just something we study – it’s who we are. The Giving Day means a lot, because it helps make sure that talented young musicians can come to Purcell no matter their background. We’ve been working so hard on the 24-hour concert and we can’t wait to share it with everyone. I really hope people will tune in, enjoy the music and support the Bursary Fund so that more students like us can have this opportunity.”
The Purcell School warmly invites anyone who wishes to support the students in their incredible efforts to visit connect.purcell-school.org/givingday or contact the Development Team at development@purcell-school.org .
