Sixth Form Progression & Futures

Where do Purcell students go next?

Students leave The Purcell School exceptionally well prepared for the next stage of their musical and academic journeys.

Each year, many Sixth Form leavers progress to leading conservatoires in the UK and internationally, with particularly strong representation at London’s major institutions including the Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music and Guildhall School of Music & Drama.

Students also continue their studies at other renowned institutions such as the Royal Northern College of Music, Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, as well as international institutions including Berklee College of Music in the United States and conservatoires in Europe.

Alongside conservatoire study, some students pursue academic routes at highly selective universities. Recent destinations include the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, Harvard University, King’s College London and the University of Edinburgh.

A significant number of Purcell students receive scholarships and financial awards to support their further study, reflecting the high level of musical and academic achievement developed during their time at the School.

Beyond higher education, Purcell alumni can be found performing with major orchestras and ensembles around the world, composing for film and media, and working across the wider creative industries.

Former students include internationally recognised musicians such as Jacob Collier, Alexis Ffrench, Catrin Finch, Martin James Bartlett, Mica Levi and Alim Beisembayev, reflecting the extraordinary range of artistic careers that begin at The Purcell School.

Throughout the Sixth Form, students receive individual guidance on applications, auditions and career planning, ensuring they are well supported as they take the next step in their musical lives.
