Purcell Taster Days

We are delighted to be able to offer Purcell Taster Days throughout the academic year. These events are run by a department or instrument, and offer a fantastic opportunity for young musicians to accelerate their playing with tuition from our expert instrumental teachers. Purcell Taster Days are also a great way to meet our staff and experience what studying at The Purcell School is like.

Woodwind Accelerate Day – Sunday 5th October 2025

Join us for a dynamic afternoon of music-making at The Purcell School as we host our Woodwind Accelerate Day, designed to inspire and challenge Woodwind players in Years 5 to 11 at Grade 5 and above.

Date: Sunday 5th October 2025
Time: 2.00 – 5.00pm (with an informal concert for parents at 4.40pm)
Venue: CP Hall, The Purcell School, Aldenham Road, Bushey, Herts WD23 2TS

This special event offers Woodwind players in Years 5 to 11, Grade 5 and above, the chance to:

  • Take part in sectionals and side-by-side full rehearsals alongside Purcell’s expert Woodwind Tutors: Mark Taylor (Flute), James Turnbull (Oboe), Steve Williams (Clarinet), Jo Baillie-Stark (Bassoon) and Amy Green (Saxophone).
  • Gain valuable performance experience in a masterclass setting and receive personalised feedback from our tutors.
  • Showcase your progress in a celebratory end-of-day concert, directed by Mike Cavanagh, Head of Wind, Brass & Percussion at The Purcell School.

Whether you are looking to refine your technique, boost your confidence or simply enjoy making music with others, Woodwind Accelerate Day promises to be an exciting and rewarding experience.
