Percussion

Purcell’s Percussion Department offers a vibrant and comprehensive education tailored to develop versatile, skilled and expressive percussionists capable of excelling in a diverse array of musical settings.

We are committed to individual attention and mentorship. Students receive one-on-one lessons from our distinguished faculty, all of whom are accomplished performers and dedicated educators. This personalised instruction is complemented by a robust ensemble programme, providing students with the opportunity to collaborate with peers in both small chamber groups and larger orchestral settings.

Our facilities are equipped with a wide range of high-quality percussion instruments, ensuring that students have the resources they need to explore the full spectrum of percussion literature. From classical to contemporary music, we cover a broad repertoire, encouraging students to become well-rounded musicians. Additionally, our students are encouraged to explore improvisation and composition, fostering creativity and innovation.

Students regularly participate in recitals, concerts and masterclasses with renowned guest artists, gaining invaluable experience and exposure.

Beyond technical proficiency, we emphasise musicality, expression and artistic development. We aim to cultivate not only skilled percussionists but also thoughtful and imaginative musicians who are prepared to pursue advanced studies and professional careers.
