The Purcell School Awarded Gold Level Boarding School Mental Health Award (2025–28)

The Purcell School is proud to announce that it has achieved Gold status in the Boarding School Mental Health Award (BSMHA), accredited by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in Schools. This prestigious award recognises schools demonstrating sector-leading practice in mental health, wellbeing and pastoral care within boarding communities.

The Gold Award reflects a rigorous assessment of the school’s whole-school approach to mental health, including leadership and strategy, staff wellbeing, student support, professional development, parental engagement and partnership with external services.

The assessment highlighted The Purcell School’s future-focused approach, particularly in meeting the unique needs of young musicians in a specialist performance environment. The report praised the school’s commitment to embedding a shared language around mental health, fostering an inclusive and supportive boarding culture, and ensuring that students are listened to, understood and empowered.

As a specialist music school with an international boarding community, The Purcell School was recognised for its integrated approach to wellbeing, ensuring that students are supported both academically and personally as they develop as musicians and young people.

The award also acknowledged the school’s strong emphasis on staff training, collaboration and innovation in mental health and wellbeing, alongside its proactive outreach work within the UK and internationally.

The Gold Award is valid for 2025–28, reinforcing The Purcell School’s ongoing commitment to excellence in pastoral care and mental health support.
