Pupil, Francesca Biescas Rue, wins prize in British Flute Society Competition

A warm congratulations to Year 11 pupil Francesca Biescas Rue on winning the School Performer Class B (under 18s) award in the British Flute Society Annual Flute Competition.

Francesca, who has been studying at The Purcell School for five years under Anna Pope and was also the 2013 winner in the Juniors Division of the competition, accepted her award last week at the Salvation Army Regent Hall in London. The judges included Sue Thomas, of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and Laura Jellicoe, a senior tutor in flute at the Royal Northern College of Music.

Prizes were donated and presented by David Sharp of Verne Q. Powell Flutes, and Francesca received a handmade Lumina head-joint.
