Charlotte Ashton appointed Principal Flute at BBC Scottish

Congratulations to Purcell alumna Charlotte Ashton, announced as the new Principal Flute of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra

Charlotte recently graduated from the Royal Academy of Music, with a First Class Honours and the ‘Principal’s Prize’, where she learned flute with Karen Jones and Sam Coles and piccolo with Sophie Johnson and Helen Keen. Her formal musical training began at the Junior Department of the Royal Academy of Music, aged eleven, before joining The Purcell School in 2008, where she studied under Clare Southworth.

Charlotte has a strong interest in outreach work and, during her three years at The Purcell School, organised and carried out many workshops and concerts.  She represented the School at The Commonwealth Resounds! festival in Trinidad & Tobago (2009) and in Sri Lanka (2013).
