DESCRIPTION:You are warmly invited to a very special evening at The Purcell School. \nA HISTORY OF THE PURCELL SCHOOL \nAn evening with staff over the decades  \nJoin us for a panel discussion about The Purcell School over the years. Alison Cox (Head of Composition: 1988-Present)\, Panos Fellas (former Head of Science and Housemaster: 1997-2024) and Ed Longstaff (Academic Music & Choir: 1993-2024) will walk us through the history of the School\, chaired by Paul Bambrough\, Principal. \nDuring the evening\, the panel will discuss highlights from their vast careers totalling almost 100 years at the School and share insights about the institution in its various forms. \nExpect to hear tales of concerts\, boarding anecdotes\, memorable students and much more as these stalwarts of The Purcell School take us on a journey through the Purcell years! \nCOMPOSITION CONCERT \nFollowing the panel discussion\, join us for a very special concert. 38 Composition alumni and staff have each written a one or two minute piece based on ‘Sumer is icumen in‘ and will be performed by Purcell students. This is the oldest known musical composition featuring six-part polyphony. The manuscript in which it is preserved was copied between 1261 and 1264. \nThis will be Alison Cox’s final Composition Concert before her retirement at the end of this academic year. Alison will retire after 38 years at the School\, including 32 years running the Composition Department that she created in 1994.   \n“Retiring from my position as Head of Composition at The Purcell School has been an immensely difficult and almost heartbreaking decision for me to make\, because\, when I arrived at the school 38 years ago as a 32-year-old music teacher\, it was impossible to imagine the huge impact it would have upon the rest of my career” Alison Cox. \nProgramme will be as follow: \n6.00pm Q&A session: A History of The Purcell School \n Light Refreshments \n7.00pm Composition Concert: Sumer is Icumen In \n8.30pm Finish \n \nTickets are free of charge. DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to welcome Miquel Ramos Salvado to take a masterclass with our students. \nMiquel has performed regularly with orchestras such the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra\, Tonhalle Zürich\, Liceu Symphony Orchestra\, BBC Symphony Orchestra\, Sinfonieorchester Basel\, Festival Strings Luzern and some others. \nSince 2017 he is member of the woodwind quintet Azahar Ensemble\, winner of the ARD Munich Competition and with which he has performed in most of the main halls and festivals in Europe\, including the Berliner Philharmonie\, Mozarteum Salzburg\, Konzerthaus Wien\, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg\, Palau de la Música in Barcelona\, Auditorio Nacional in Madrid and the Festival Baden-Baden. \nFrom 2016 Miquel is also member of the project Spira Mirabilis. As a chamber music performer he has collaborated with musicians like Lorenza Borrani\, Denes Varjon\, Rosalía Gómez Lasheras\, Dag Jensen and the Cosmos Quartet. \nMiquel has been recently appointed Visiting Professor of Clarinet at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. \nIf you would like to attend this masterclass please email concerts@purcell-school.org .The masterclass is free to attend but donations to a retiring collection will be gratefully received.

Oxide Pang Chun & Danny Pang. \nStories of beauty\, joy\, loss\, greed and ambition\, the moving images are brought to life by exciting original sound design with composers drawing on conventional and extended techniques of acoustic instruments\, sampled sounds\, synthesis and creative effects.
