Outreach is a vital part of life at the Purcell School. From programmes that have been running for several years now – like our annual visit to primary schools in Cornwall – to innovations like our Outreach Course for pupils in Year 11, Outreach is at the heart of what we do. Concerts in the community, workshops both here at School and externally, special projects involving school children and professional musicians, even trips to Malta, Uganda and Trinidad and Tobago are all part of a varied and exciting programme.
At the moment, we are particularly excited by a new partnership with EPTA (the European Piano Teachers’ Association) with whom we are hosting a Practical Piano Teaching Course. We have also enjoyed public recognition of the quality of our Outreach work; one of our projects was recently nominated for a Royal Philharmonic Society Award.
- IMPULSE is a unique training programme for young musicians who voulnteer to organise their own projects and performances for schoolchildren. Their work has taken them to many schools in Hertfordshire and London and they have toured to work in partnership with remote communities in Norfolk and Cornwall. In March 2009 ran a new project in Wales, organised by two Welsh pupils, Rosie Whiting and Anne Denholm. An Impulse group is currently on tour; click here for more details.
