An enthusiastic audience enjoyed a varied programme featuring well-known composers such as J.S. Bach, Schumann and Stravinsky, alongside lesser-known masters such as Taktakishvili (a Georgian, born in Tblisi and composer of the state anthem when the country was part of the USSR).
The students who took part gave tremendous performances; Sophie Benfield sang, Lucia Biescas-Rue played the flute, Francesca Biescas-Rue the trombone, Nick Dray the baroque cello, Billy Watman and Torrin Williams played a guitar duet transcription, and Mark Zang rounded off the evening with two piano pieces. Staff piano accompanist and former Purcellian Deborah Shah accompanied.
The beautiful medieval church made a highly atmospheric performing venue. We are grateful to the vicar and congregation of St Andrew’s Chinnor for their warm welcome.
