Royal College alumna, Kizzy Brooks, delighted Purcellians with a two-hour drumming masterclass. Focusing on drumline, which takes its origins in Scotland, Brooks took The Purcell School percussionists through some exciting drills working towards “two more funky pieces that they’ll be able to play by the end of the session”.

Brooks’ introduction to drumline taught pupils about its current place in musical marching band ensembles most commonly found in America, the origins of the different stick grips and stick tricks such as back sticking. Her incredible skill left the pupils in awe as she showed examples of some more advanced stick tricks flawlessly.
