On 6th August 2017, alumnus Kerem Hasan became the recipient of the Nestle and Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award 2017.

The world-wide competition, which is in it’s eighth year, aims to discover young conducting talent and offers the winner both an important financial contribution towards their career and the opportunity to conduct the Festival concert at the Felsenreitschule in August 2018.

Kerem joined The Purcell School in 2008 and studied under William Fong, Head of Keyboard. After leaving at the age of eighteen, he joined the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where he continued to study the piano and joined the conducting programme.

Of Kerem, Jury Chairman, Dennis Russell Davies commented ‘He has the necessary self-confidence, he knows what he wants and he has the talent required – in other words the best prerequisites for an international career’.
