'My life at The Purcell School'
The normal weekday at Purcell is busy yet fun!
Firstly we are awoken by our Houseparents (Mrs and Mr Henderson) at 6.30am to be ready to practice at 7.20am. We practice for an hour before having our breakfast at 8.20am. Breakfast is yummy because we have a selection of cereals, fruits and sometimes pastries! The menu changes everyday which is really good too.
At 9.00 we started lessons which are really fun. A 40 minute or an hour’s practice is fitted into the school day which is very helpful for most pupils.
The school day finishes at 3.40pm which is when most day pupils travel home. The boarders then have some free time in which we usually play and sometimes even go swimming.
After free time we have an hour of prep in which we do homework. Everybody is really friendly and they help you as much as they can. Next we have supper which is lovely.
Afterwards we have an hour of good practice. We then have free time until bedtime in which we have a really good chat about the school day!

Purcell is a truly special place. Academic lessons are brilliant, and all the teachers are fantastic. I never have to worry about missing too many academic lessons because I have to go to music lessons because the music office makes sure my lessons are at convenient times. I manage to get all my homework and practice done, even though sometimes it is a struggle. As a day pupil I do the majority of my practice at home, but I often stay until later on in the evening for various activities.
Although it is a very small school, there is never any concern about making friends! I have met some amazing people, whom I will most probably stay close to for the rest of my life. I think one of the best things about the school is that everyone knows everyone, age becomes insignificant.
There are so many world class concerts, master classes, recitals, to name a few, that are held at the school, and I would never have been able to go to if I wasn’t here. Being in an environment like this has enhanced my knowledge and love for music so much , I can honestly say that I think it’s the best place to be a young musician.
Purcell is without a doubt my second home and I love it here. I have loved the time I have spent here and I really look forward to my future in this school.

Being at Purcell has made me reassess my concept of a school! I think in order to sum up my crazy, wonderful and inspirational time at Purcell, it would be best to say what I can hear right now from my bedroom window…
The purring of the radiators
Slow Scales
Mrs F. chuckling down the corridor
The jazz band starting up
The muted din of a Rachmaninoff Prelude
My friends slurping tea
The humming of Bach in the corridors
Scratching Pencils
A violin tuning up
The leaves in the wind, whispering.
