Music lessons
As you would expect, every pupil at The Purcell School has several music lessons every week. Music lessons fall into two categories:
As every pupil is given a personalised programme, it is hard to generalise how your three hours might be divided up. However, a reasonably common programme might look like this:
All composers attend a seminar every week that is part of their allocation.
Your programme is worked out in consultation with your Head of Department and we keep it under review constantly.
- group sessions – these are on the main timetable and include academic music (aural, theory/harmony, music history and composition), coached chamber music, improvisation groups, orchestras and choirs.
- individual sessions – these are timetabled each week for each pupil and include instrumental lessons, composition lessons, Alexander Technique and one-to-one support in aural and theory training.
As every pupil is given a personalised programme, it is hard to generalise how your three hours might be divided up. However, a reasonably common programme might look like this:
- 1½-2 hours lessons on your first study instrument (including composition);
- ½-1 hour lesson on your second study instrument (including composition);
- ½ an hour Alexander Technique, or aural and theory training.
All composers attend a seminar every week that is part of their allocation.
