Because the School admits on musical talent and potential rather than to a pre-determined quota, the profile of bedspaces becoming available by age and/or gender fluctuates from year to year. At present about a fifth of qualified applicants are placed on a waiting list where they might be for some months.
Using an innovative design to specifically improve flexibility, the new boarding accommodation will ensure worthy applicants are not denied the opportunity of coming to the School because they happen to be a boy or girl or fall into an age group for which we have fewer spaces in a particular year.

The new building will also help to make the School more accessible. Our existing boarding houses date mostly from the early twentieth century and are not served by a lift. At present an application from a wheelchair user is likely to be reluctantly turned down because our accommodation is simply not practical. The new boarding facility will provide full disabled access.
There are a great many other benefits that will come with the new boarding accommodation. Click here to request an Appeal brochure.
We need your help.
The Opening doors to the future Appeal needs to raise £3.8 and with some £2.73m already secured, the fundraising focus is now very much on reducing the £1.07m shortfall.
The overall cost of the development is £5m and includes the headline costs of the accommodation including car park works and modifications to the Arts department building.
